     Lt.-Gen. Hay Macdowall was born on 12 November 1759.1 He was the son of William Macdowall, 18th of Garthland and 2nd of Castlesemple and Elizabeth 'Black Bess' Graham.2 He died in 1809, lost at sea returning from India.2
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1805.1 He held the office of Commander-in-Chief of Madras.1

     Eleanor Mary Grant was born on 28 October 1771.2 She was the daughter of Colonel Alexander Grant, 4th of Arndilly and Eleanor Frances Murray.3,2 She was baptised on 30 October 1771 at Boharm, Morayshire, Scotland.2 She married David Macdowall, son of William Macdowall, 18th of Garthland and 2nd of Castlesemple and Elizabeth 'Black Bess' Graham, in 1790.1 She died in 1832.1
     She was also known as Mary Eleanora Grant.2 From 1790, her married name became Macdowall.

     Lt.-Gen. Duncan Campbell, 8th of Lochnell was born in 1763.1 He was the son of Colonel Dugald Campbell of Ballimore. He married, firstly, Hon. Eleanora Fraser, daughter of George Fraser, 15th Lord Saltoun of Abernethy and Helen Gordon, on 6 July 1792.2 He and Hon. Eleanora Fraser were divorced in 1808.1 He married, secondly, Augusta Murray, daughter of Sir William Murray of Ochtertyre, 5th Bt. and Augusta Mackenzie, on 14 May 1808.1 He died on 9 April 1837.3
