     Sir John Macdowall, 13th of Garthland was the son of John Macdowall, 12th of Garthland and Janet Gordon.2 He married Margaret Kerr, daughter of Sir Andrew Kerr, 1st Lord Jedburgh and Anna Stewart.1 He died in May 1637.1
     He was appointed Knight by King James VI.1 In 1616 he regularly attended the court of King James VI and I but retired upon the fall of the Lord High Treasurer of Scotland the Earl of Somerset.1 In 1627 he was commissioned, with Sir Patrick Agnew, Sheriff of Wigtown, by the barons, free holders, etc of Wigtownshire to transact the surrender of their tithes to the King.1

Sir William Spring1

     Sir William Spring was born on 29 July 1588.2 He was the son of John Spring and Mary Trelawny.1 He married Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Sir William Smith and Bridget Fleetwood, on 1 November 1610.3 He died on 2 March 1638 at age 49.2
     He was appointed Knight by King James I.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Suffolk in 1596.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Suffolk in 1623.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bury St. Edmunds in 1625.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Suffolk in 1628.2
