     Elizabeth Macdowall was born on 1 March 1786 at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1,2 She was the daughter of James Macdowall and Margaret Jamieson.3,4 She married Henry Thomas Cockburn of Bonaly, Lord Cockburn, son of Archibald Cockburn and Janet Rennie, on 12 March 1811 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.1,2 She died in 1857.1
      From 12 March 1811, her married name became Cockburn.

     Henry Thomas Cockburn of Bonaly, Lord Cockburn was born on 26 October 1779 at Cockpen, Midlothian, Scotland.3 He was the son of Archibald Cockburn and Janet Rennie.3 He married Elizabeth Macdowall, daughter of James Macdowall and Margaret Jamieson, on 12 March 1811 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.1,3 He died on 18 July 1854 at age 74 at Bonaly, Midlothian, Scotland.4,3
     He gained the title of Lord Cockburn [Scottish Law Lord].4 He held the office of a Lord of Session.1 He held the office of Solicitor-General [Scotland].3 He lived at Bonaly, Midlothian, Scotland.1
