     John Macdowall, 12th of Garthland was the son of Uchtred Macdowall, 11th of Garthland and Eupham Dunbar.2 He married Janet Gordon, daughter of Sir John Gordon of Lochinvar and Elizabeth Maxwell.1 He died in May 1611.1
     On 17 October 1600 he was served heir to his father.1
