     John Hope was born on 7 April 1739.¹ He was the son of Hon. Charles Hope-Vere and Catherine Weir.¹ He married Mary Breton, daughter of Eliab Breton and Elizabeth Wolstenholme, on 2 June 1762.² He died in 1785.¹
     He held the office of a merchant.¹

     Rt. Hon. Charles Hope, Lord Granton was born on 29 June 1763.¹ He was the son of John Hope and Mary Breton.¹ He married Lady Charlotte Hope, daughter of John Hope, 2nd Earl of Hopetoun and Lady Elizabeth Leslie, on 8 August 1793.¹ He died on 31 October 1851 at age 88.¹
     He was educated at University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.² He was admitted to Advocate in 1784.² He held the office of Sheriff of Orkney in 1792.² He held the office of Lord Advocate between 1801 and 1804.² He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Edinburgh between 1803 and 1805.² He held the office of Lord Justice Clerk between 1804 and 1811.² He was styled as Lord Granton [Scottish Law Lord].² He held the office of Lord President of the Court of Sessions between 1811 and 1836.² He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1822.² He held the office of Lord Justice General between 1836 and 1841.² He lived at Granton, Midlothian, Scotland.¹

     Lady Charlotte Hope was the daughter of John Hope, 2nd Earl of Hopetoun and Lady Elizabeth Leslie. She married Rt. Hon. Charles Hope, Lord Granton, son of John Hope and Mary Breton, on 8 August 1793.¹
      Her married name became Hope.

     Jane Oliphant was the daughter of Robert Oliphant.¹ She married John Hope, 2nd Earl of Hopetoun, son of Charles Hope, 1st Earl of Hopetoun and Lady Henrietta Johnstone, on 30 October 1762.¹ She died on 16 March 1767.²
      Her married name became Hope.

     Robert Oliphant lived at Rossie, Perthshire, Scotland.¹

     Lady Elizabeth Leslie was the daughter of Alexander Leslie, 7th Earl of Leven and Hon. Elizabeth Monypenny.¹ She married John Hope, 2nd Earl of Hopetoun, son of Charles Hope, 1st Earl of Hopetoun and Lady Henrietta Johnstone, on 10 June 1767.¹ She died on 10 April 1788.¹
      Her married name became Hope.

     Hon. Elizabeth Monypenny was baptised on 26 March 1700.¹ She was the daughter of Alexander Monypenny, 20th of Pitmilly and Hon. Magdalene Erskine.^2,3 She married Alexander Leslie, 7th Earl of Leven, son of David Leslie, 5th Earl of Leven and Anne Wemyss, on 10 March 1726.² She died on 15 March 1783 at age 82.²
      Her married name became Leslie.¹ As a result of her marriage, Hon. Elizabeth Monypenny was styled as Countess of Leven and Melville in June 1729.

     Lady Anne Leslie was the daughter of Alexander Leslie, 7th Earl of Leven and Hon. Elizabeth Monypenny.¹ She married Admiral George Carnegie, 6th Earl of Northesk, son of David Carnegie, 4th Earl of Northesk and Margaret Wemyss, Countess of Wemyss, on 30 April 1748. She died in 1779.¹
      Her married name became Carnegie.

     David Carnegie, 5th Earl of Northesk was born on 11 June 1701. He was the son of David Carnegie, 4th Earl of Northesk and Margaret Wemyss, Countess of Wemyss. He died on 24 June 1741 at age 40, unmarried.
     He gained the title of 5th Earl of Northesk.

     Admiral George Carnegie, 6th Earl of Northesk was born on 2 August 1716. He was the son of David Carnegie, 4th Earl of Northesk and Margaret Wemyss, Countess of Wemyss. He married Lady Anne Leslie, daughter of Alexander Leslie, 7th Earl of Leven and Hon. Elizabeth Monypenny, on 30 April 1748. He died on 20 January 1792 at age 75.
     He gained the title of 6th Earl of Northesk. He gained the rank of Admiral of the White in the service of the Royal Navy.
