Rt. Hon. Charles Hope, Lord Granton was born on 29 June 1763.1 He was the son of John Hope and Mary Breton.1 He married Lady Charlotte Hope, daughter of John Hope, 2nd Earl of Hopetoun and Lady Elizabeth Leslie, on 8 August 1793.1 He died on 31 October 1851 at age 88.1
He was educated at University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.2 He was admitted to Advocate in 1784.2 He held the office of Sheriff of Orkney in 1792.2 He held the office of Lord Advocate between 1801 and 1804.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Edinburgh between 1803 and 1805.2 He held the office of Lord Justice Clerk between 1804 and 1811.2 He was styled as Lord Granton [Scottish Law Lord].2 He held the office of Lord President of the Court of Sessions between 1811 and 1836.2 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1822.2 He held the office of Lord Justice General between 1836 and 1841.2 He lived at Granton, Midlothian, Scotland.1

Magdalene Erskine.2,3 She married Alexander Leslie, 7th Earl of Leven, son of David Leslie, 5th Earl of Leven and Anne Wemyss, on 10 March 1726.2 She died on 15 March 1783 at age 82.2
