Sir Alexander Sharp Bethune of Scotscraig, 9th Bt.1

     Sir Alexander Sharp Bethune of Scotscraig, 9th Bt. was born on 21 March 1860.2 He was the son of Alexander Bethune of Blebo and Margaret Maxwell.2 He married Elizabeth Carnegie Maitland-Heriot, daughter of Frederick Lewis Maitland-Heriot and Martha Agnew, on 8 November 1889.1 He died on 31 March 1917 at age 57.2
     He was given the name of Alexander Bethune at birth.2 He succeeded as the 9th Baronet Bethune, of Scotscraig, co. Fife [N.S., 1683] on 10 May 1900.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Fife.2 On 22 December 1916 his claim to the baronetcy was allowed by the Crown (on advice from the Privy Council) and his name placed on the Roll of Baronets by Order in Council.2 His name was legally changed to Alexander Sharp Bethune.2

     Vice-Admiral William Heriot-Maitland-Dougall was born on 3 July 1819.1 He was the son of James Maitland-Heriot and Margaret Dalgleish.2 He married Elizabeth Kinnear Dougall, daughter of William Stark Dougall, on 18 December 1851.1 He died on 7 March 1890 at age 70.1
     He was given the name of William Maitland-Heriot at birth.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Fife.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Fife.1 He was Colonel of the Fife and Stirling Volunteer Artillery, Tay Submarine Mines.1 He lived at Scotscraig, Tayport, Fife, ScotlandG.1

     Elizabeth Kinnear Dougall was the daughter of William Stark Dougall.1 She married Vice-Admiral William Heriot-Maitland-Dougall, son of James Maitland-Heriot and Margaret Dalgleish, on 18 December 1851.1 She died on 16 April 1900.1
     From 18 December 1851, her married name became Heriot-Maitland-Dougall.1
