Margaret Leslie, Countess of Leven was the daughter of Alexander Leslie, 2nd Earl of Leven and Margaret Howard.1 She married Francis Montgomerie, son of Hugh Montgomerie, 7th Earl of Eglinton and Lady Mary Leslie, circa 10 October 1673.1 She died on 6 November 1674, without issue.1

Alexander Leslie, 2nd Earl of Leven was born circa 1637.1 He was the son of Alexander Leslie, Lord Balgonie and Lady Margaret Leslie.1 He married Margaret Howard, daughter of Sir William Howard and Mary Eure, on 30 December 1656.1 He died on 15 July 1664, without male issue.1
Alexander Leslie, 2nd Earl of Leven succeeded to the title of 2nd Lord Balgonie [S., 1641] on 4 April 1661.1 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Earl of Leven [S., 1641] on 4 April 1661.1 On 12 February 1663 he obtained a regrant of his Earldom, with special remainder to all heirs male, then heirs female of his body, then John, Earl of Rothe's second son, then his sister, Catherine's second son, then the second of his mother !1

Margaret Howard was the daughter of Sir William Howard and Mary Eure.1 She married Alexander Leslie, 2nd Earl of Leven, son of Alexander Leslie, Lord Balgonie and Lady Margaret Leslie, on 30 December 1656.1 She died on 30 September 1664.1
From 30 December 1656, her married name became Leslie.1 As a result of her marriage, Margaret Howard was styled as Countess of Leven on 4 April 1661.
