Sir John Kaye, 1st Bt.1

     Sir John Kaye, 1st Bt. was baptised on 15 August 1616. He was the son of Sir John Kaye and Anne Ferne.2 He married, firstly, Margaret Moseley, daughter of Thomas Moseley, on 27 April 1637.2 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Leigh, daughter of Sir Ferdinando Leigh, in 1649.2 He married, thirdly, Katherine St. Quintin, daughter of Sir William St. Quintin, 1st Bt. and Mary Lacy, on 12 February 1660.1 He died on 23 July 1662 at age 45.
     He was appointed Knight in 1641.2 He was created 1st Baronet Kaye, of Woodsome, co. York [England] on 4 February 1641/42.2 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royalist regiment of horse.2 He fought in the English Civil War.2 He raised 700 men in time for the Battle of Naseby, being promised an earldom by King Charles I in the event of victory.2 He also had nine children by his second wife (all died without issue.2 )

     Margaret Leslie, Countess of Leven was the daughter of Alexander Leslie, 2nd Earl of Leven and Margaret Howard.1 She married Hon. Francis Montgomerie, son of Hugh Montgomerie, 7th Earl of Eglinton and Lady Mary Leslie, circa 10 October 1673.1 She died on 6 November 1674, without issue.1
     She succeeded as the 3rd Countess of Leven [S., 1641] on 15 July 1664.1 From circa 10 October 1673, her married name became Montgomerie.1

Alexander Leslie, 2nd Earl of Leven1

     Alexander Leslie, 2nd Earl of Leven was born circa 1637.1 He was the son of Alexander Leslie, Lord Balgonie and Lady Margaret Leslie.1 He married Margaret Howard, daughter of Sir William Howard and Mary Eure, on 30 December 1656.1 He died on 15 July 1664, without male issue.1
     He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Leven [S., 1641] on 4 April 1661.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Balgonie [S., 1641] on 4 April 1661.1 On 12 February 1663 he obtained a regrant of his Earldom, with special remainder to all heirs male, then heirs female of his body, then John, Earl of Rothe's second son, then his sister, Catherine's second son, then the second of his mother !1

     Margaret Howard was the daughter of Sir William Howard and Mary Eure.1 She married Alexander Leslie, 2nd Earl of Leven, son of Alexander Leslie, Lord Balgonie and Lady Margaret Leslie, on 30 December 1656.1 She died on 30 September 1664.1
     From 30 December 1656, her married name became Leslie.1 After her marriage, Margaret Howard was styled as Countess of Leven on 4 April 1661.

     Sir Andrew Ramsay of Abbotshall, 2nd Bt. was baptised on 24 December 1648.2 He was the son of Sir Andrew Ramsay, Lord Abbotshall and Janet Craw.3,2 He married Lady Anne Montgomerie, daughter of Hugh Montgomerie, 7th Earl of Eglinton and Lady Mary Leslie.1 He died in 1709, without issue.3 He was buried at Abbotshall, Fife, Scotland.2
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for North Berwick [Scotland] between 1669 and 1674.2 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Ramsay, of Abbotshall, co. Fife [N.S., 1669] on 17 January 1688.2
