Donald Macdonald, 8th of Glengary and Morar was born in 1543.2 He was the son of Angus Macalister Macdonald, 7th of Glengarry and Janet Maclean.2 He married Margaret Macdonald, daughter of Allan Macdonald, 9th of Clanranald and Moidart and Janet Maclean.1 He died on 2 February 1645.1
He was also known as Donald Macdonell, 8th of Glengarry.2 On 19 July 1574 he had a charter under the Great Seal of the lands of Glengarry.2 On 15 April 1584 he was legitimated under the Privy Seal.2 On 5 November 1584 he was served heir to Margaret his grandmother in half of the lands of Achuilt and to his great-great-grandfather Celestine of Lochalsh.2 On 27 March 1627 he had a charter under the Great Seal, on his own resignation, of the lands of Glengarry incorporating it into a free barony.2
