John St. Clair of Herdmanston was the son of Sir William St. Clair of Herdmanston.2 He married Marion Cockburn.1 He died on 9 September 1513 at Flodden Field, Northumberland, England, killed in action.1
In 1481 he had sasine of his lands.1 On 20 April 1505 he had a new Charter under the Great Seal of Herdmanston.1 He fought in the Battle of Flodden on 9 September 1513.1 He had two other lawful sons and two illegitimate sons.1
