     John Cuninghame was born on 13 February 1796.1 He was the son of William Cuninghame, 1st of Lainshaw and Margaret Nicolson Cranstoun.2 He married Eliza Mary Upton, daughter of Captain Clotworthy Upton, on 26 March 1831.1 He died in 1864.1
     John Cuninghame held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.).1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).1 He lived at Lainshaw, Ayrshire, Scotland.1 He lived at Duchrae, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland.1 He had two other sons.1

     Maria Edmondstoune-Cranstoun of Corehouse was the son of William Cuninghame, 1st of Lainshaw and Margaret Nicolson Cranstoun.2 He died in August 1863, unmarried.1
     Maria Edmondstoune-Cranstoun of Corehouse was baptised with the name of Maria Cuninghame.1 On 1850 his name was legally changed to Maria Edmondstoune-Cranstoun when she succeeded to Cranstoun from her uncle.1
