     Reverend William Shirley was born on 23 August 1856.¹ He was the son of Reverend Arthur George Sewallis Shirley and Mary Beadon Turner.² He married Alice Louisa Pryor, daughter of Reverend Frederick Bell Pryor, on 22 April 1884.¹ He died on 1 March 1949 at age 92.¹
     He graduated from Keble College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He was the Rector between 1908 and 1920 at Bursledon, Hampshire, England^G.¹
