     John Mackenzie, 2nd Earl of Cromarty was born circa 1656.1 He was the son of George Mackenzie of Tarbat, 1st Earl of Cromarty and Anne Sinclair.1 He married by contract, firstly, Lady Elizabeth Gordon, daughter of Charles Gordon, 1st Earl of Aboyne and Lady Elizabeth Lyon, on 10 January 1685.2,3 He and Lady Elizabeth Gordon were divorced on 28 July 1698 for adultery with a Frenchman, Lavelette or Laballot.2,4 He married, secondly, Mary Murray, daughter of Patrick Murray, 3rd Lord Elibank and Anne Burnet, on 25 April 1701.2 He married, thirdly, Hon. Anne Fraser, daughter of Hugh Fraser, 9th Lord (Fraser of) Lovat and Lady Amelia Murray, circa 23 October 1717.2 He died on 20 February 1730/31 at Castleleod, ScotlandG.1
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Ross-shire [Scotland] in 1685, but didn't serve 'by reason his father was nobiliate.1' In April 1691 he was tried by the Court of Justiciary for the murder of Sieur de la Roche (killed in a tavern brawl in Leith), and was acquitted.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Macleod and Castlehaven [S., 1703] on 17 August 1714.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount of Tarbat [S., 1703] on 17 August 1714.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount of Tarbat [S., 1685] on 17 August 1714.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Cromarty [S., 1703] on 17 August 1714.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Macleod and Castlehaven [S., 1685] on 17 August 1714.1 In 1724 he became insolvent and his estates were sequestered.3

     Lady Elizabeth Gordon was the daughter of Charles Gordon, 1st Earl of Aboyne and Lady Elizabeth Lyon.1 A contract for the marriage of Lady Elizabeth Gordon and John Mackenzie, 2nd Earl of Cromarty was signed on 10 January 1685.1,2 She and John Mackenzie, 2nd Earl of Cromarty were divorced on 28 July 1698 for adultery with a Frenchman, Lavelette or Laballot.1,3 She died, without issue.1
     From 10 January 1685, her married name became Mackenzie.1

     Mary Murray was born on 28 August 1681.1 She was the daughter of Patrick Murray, 3rd Lord Elibank and Anne Burnet.1 She married John Mackenzie, 2nd Earl of Cromarty, son of George Mackenzie of Tarbat, 1st Earl of Cromarty and Anne Sinclair, on 25 April 1701.1 She died before 1717.1
     From 25 April 1701, her married name became Mackenzie.1

Anne Fraser was born in 1689.2 She was the daughter of Hugh Fraser, 9th Lord (Fraser of) Lovat and Lady Amelia Murray.1 She married, secondly, Peter Fotheringham of Powrie, younger.1 She married, thirdly, John Mackenzie, 2nd Earl of Cromarty, son of George Mackenzie of Tarbat, 1st Earl of Cromarty and Anne Sinclair, circa 23 October 1717.1 She married, firstly, Norman MacLeod, 20th of MacLeod, son of Ian 'Breac' Macleod, 18th of MacLeod and Florence Macdonald, in September 1703.3 She died on 10 August 1734.1
     Her married name became Fotheringham.1 From September 1703, her married name became MacLeod.2 From circa 23 October 1717, her married name became Mackenzie.1
