Lt.-Col. Miles Roland Charles Backhouse was born on 24 November 1878.2 He was the son of Sir Jonathan Edmund Backhouse, 1st Bt. and Florence Trelawny.2 He married Olive Buxton, daughter of Lt.-Col. Geoffrey Fowell Buxton and Mary Harbord, on 14 September 1904.2 He died on 15 May 1962 at age 83.2
Lt.-Col. Miles Roland Charles Backhouse was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.2 He was educated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.2 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902.2 He was decorated with the award of Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)
