He married, firstly, Aleksandra Nikolaievna Romanov, Grand Duchess of Russia, daughter of Nikolai I Pavlovich Romanov, Tsar of Russia and Friederike Luise Charlotte Wilhelmine Prinzessin von Preußen, on 28 January 1844 at St. Petersburg, Russia.2 He married, secondly, Marie Anne Friederike Prinzessin von Preußen, daughter of Karl Prinz von Preußen and Marie Luise Alexandrine Prinzessin von Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach, on 26 May 1853 at Berlin-Charlottenburg, Brandenburg, Germany.2 He died on 14 October 1884 at age 63 at Frankfurt-am-Main, Hessen, Germany.2
