     He was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.)2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 1st Battalion, Grenadier Guards.2

     He gained the title of Prinz von Hessen.1 He was crowned King of Finland on 9 October 1918.3 He was deposed as when he renounced the throne. The Finnish Parliament decided to become a republic instead on 14 December 1918.3
