     James Maitland, 9th Earl of Lauderdale was born on 12 May 1784.2 He was the son of James Maitland, 8th Earl of Lauderdale and Eleanor Todd.1 He died on 22 August 1860 at age 76 at Thirlestane Castle, Lauder, Berwickshire, ScotlandG, unmarried.3
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He was educated at University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) Admiral Anthony Maitland, 10th Earl of Lauderdale1

     Admiral Anthony Maitland, 10th Earl of Lauderdale was born on 10 June 1785.1 He was the son of James Maitland, 8th Earl of Lauderdale and Eleanor Todd.1 He died on 22 March 1863 at age 77, unmarried.1
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Haddington Burghs between 1813 and 1818.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1816.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1820.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Berwickshire between 1826 and 1832.1 He held the office of Naval Aide-de-Camp to King William IV between 1830 and 1837.2 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1832.1 He held the office of Naval Aide-de-Camp to HM Queen Victoria between 1837 and 1841.2 He succeeded as the 10th Lord Thirlestane and Boltoun [S., 1624] on 22 August 1860.2 He succeeded as the 10th Viscount of Lauderdale [S., 1616] on 22 August 1860.2 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Lauderdale of Thirlestane, co.      General Hon. William Mordaunt Maitland was baptised on 12 August 1764 at Ratho, Midlothian, ScotlandG.2 He was the son of James Maitland, 7th Earl of Lauderdale and Mary Turner Lombe.1 He married, firstly, Mary Orpen, daughter of Reverend Richard Orpen.1 He married, secondly, Jane Walker, daughter of Reverend Thomas Walker, on 5 June 1810.1 He died on 24 June 1841 at age 76.1

William Mordaunt Maitland and Mary Orpen.1 He married Amelia Young, daughter of William Young, on 7 February 1828 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.1,2 He died on 1 September 1878 at age 75 at Thirlestone Castle, Berwickshire, Scotland.1,2

Amelia Young

     Amelia Young was the daughter of William Young.1 She married Admiral Thomas Maitland, 11th Earl of Lauderdale, son of General Hon. William Mordaunt Maitland and Mary Orpen, on 7 February 1828 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.1,2 She died on 18 February 1890.1
     From 7 February 1828, her married name became Maitland. After her marriage, Amelia Young was styled as Countess of Lauderdale on 22 March 1863.

     Her married name became Watherstone.1 From 5 June 1810, her married name became Maitland.
