     William Maitland was the son of Charles Maitland, 3rd Earl of Lauderdale and Elizabeth Lauder.1 He married, firstly, Christian Makgill, daughter of Robert Makgill, 2nd Viscount of Oxfuird and Lady Henrietta Livingston.1 He married, secondly, Margaret Walker.1 He died in 1724.1

     Christian Makgill was born on 16 March 1677.2 She is the daughter of Robert Makgill, 2nd Viscount of Oxfuird and Lady Henrietta Livingston.2,3 She married William Maitland, son of Charles Maitland, 3rd Earl of Lauderdale and Elizabeth Lauder.1 She died in 1707.2
     Her married name became Maitland.1 She styled herself as Viscountess of Oxfuird in 1706.2
