     Lt.-Col. John Espenett Knott was the son of Herbert Knott.1 He married Dorothy Mary Bayly, daughter of Maurice Spring Rice Bayly and Jeanie Theodora Hayes, on 8 November 1915.1 He died on 1 November 1959.1
     Lt.-Col. John Espenett Knott was decorated with the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.).1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.).1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the 8th Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.1
