Ludwig I Landgraf von Hessen was born on 6 February 1402 at Spangenberg, Germany.1 He was the son of Hermann II Landgraf von Hessen and Margaret von Hohenzollern.2 He married Anne von Sachsen, daughter of Friedrich I Kurfürst von Sachsen and Catherine von Braunschweig-Lüneburg, on 8 September 1436.1 He died on 17 January 1458 at age 55 at Spangenberg, Germany.1
Ludwig I Landgraf von Hessen also went by the nick-name of Ludwig 'the Peaceful'.1 He succeeded to the title of Landgraf von Hessen in 1413.2 In 1450 he acquired the Counties of Ziegenhain and Nidda.1

He married Catherine von Braunschweig-Lüneburg, daughter of Heinrich I Herzog von Braunschweig-Lüneburg and Sophie von Pommern, on 7 February 1402. He died on 4 January 1428 at age 57 at Altenburg, Germany.
