     He was British Vice-Consul in the Spanish Province of Biscay.1 He was Acting Consul in the Provinces of Biscay, Santander and Guipuycoa in 1847.1 He was decorated with the award of the Commander, Order of Christ of Portugal.1 He was decorated with the award of the Cross of Naval Merit (Spanish).1 He was created 1st Baron De Barry [Portugal].1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Caithness.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Windsor between 1890 and 1906.1 He was created 1st Baronet Barry, of St. Leonard's Hill, Clewer, Berks and Keiss Castle, Caithness [U.K.] on 22 February 1899.1
