     Sir William Grey Ellison-Macartney was born on 7 June 1852 at Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland. He was the son of John William Ellison-Macartney and Elizabeth Phoebe Porter. He died on 4 December 1924 at age 72 at Chelsea, London, England.
     He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1912.2 He held the office of Governor of Tasmania between 1912 and 1917.2 He held the office of Governor of Western Australia between 1917 and 1920.2
