     Ian Macalister Macdonald of Clanranald and Moidart was the son of Alexander Macallan Macdonald of Clanranald and Moidart.2 He married Margaret Macdonald, daughter of unknown Macdonald of Ardnamurchan.1 He married unknown daughter Macdonald, daughter of Angus Macdonald, 5th of Knoydart.1 He married unknown daughter Neil.3 He died in 1584, having also had a daughter (–, m Allan Maclean issue).3
      On 15 January 1531 received a charter of legitimation from JAMES V , and a charter of his f's lands of Moidart, Arisaig, and the stronghold of Castle Tirrim 11 Feb 1531, kidnapped by the Crown and imprisoned in Edinburgh 1540, whereupon Hugh, 3rd Lord Lovat, aided b.1
