     He was District Commissioner of the Nigerian Civil Service.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)1

Charles Richard Sumner filed for divorce from an unknown person between 1804 and 1809 at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.3 He married Jennie Fannie Barnabine Maunoir, daughter of J. P. Maunoir, on 24 January 1816 at English Chapel, Geneva, SwitzerlandG.3 He died on 15 August 1874 at age 83 at Farnham Castle, Farnham, Surrey, EnglandG.2

     From 15 December 1859, her married name became Soltau-Symons.

     He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Devon.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Devon.1 He lived at Little Efford, Devon, England.1
