Charles Stewart Hardinge, 2nd Viscount Hardinge of Lahore and Kings Newton was born on 2 September 1822.1 He was the son of Field Marshal Henry Hardinge, 1st Viscount Hardinge of Lahore and Kings Newton and Lady Emily Jane Stewart.1 He married Lady Lavinia Bingham, daughter of Field Marshal George Charles Bingham, 3rd Earl of Lucan and Lady Anne Brudenell, on 10 April 1856.2 He died on 28 July 1894 at age 71.3
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Downpatrick between 1851 and 1856.1 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Viscount Hardinge of Lahore and Kings Newton, co. Derby [U.K., 1846] on 24 September 1856.4 He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the service of the 1st Volunteer Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).1 He was Aide-de-Camp to HM Queen Victoria.1 He was decorated with the award of the Royal Officers' Decoration (V.D.).1
