Rear-Admiral Lord John Hay was born on 1 April 1793.2 He was the son of George Hay, 7th Marquess of Tweeddale and Lady Hannah Charlotte Maitland.2 He married Mary Anne Cameron, daughter of Donald Cameron of Lochiel, 22nd Chief of Clan Cameron and Hon. Anne Abercromby, on 2 September 1846.1 He died on 26 August 1851 at age 58.2
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Haddington between 1826 and 1830.2 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Hanoverian Order (K.C.H.).2 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.).2 He was decorated with the award of the Knight Grand Cross, Order of Charles III of Spain.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Windsor in 1847.2 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in the service of the Royal Navy.2
