     Rt. Hon. Sir William Brereton was born circa 1483.1 He was the son of Andrew Brereton and Agnes Leigh.2 He married, firstly, Alice Savage, daughter of Sir John Savage.1 He married, secondly, Eleanor Brereton, daughter of Sir Randle Brereton.1 He died circa February 1541.1 He was buried on 4 February 1541 at Kilkenny, County Kilkenny, IrelandG.1
     He lived at Brereton, Cheshire, EnglandG.1 He was he accompanied Lord Depute Sir William Skeffington to Ireland, to subdue the revolt of 10th Earl of Kildare who he beseiged in Maynooth Castle in 1534.1 In 1538 he returned to England, but went back to Ireland the following year.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland]1 He held the office of Lord Marshal of Ireland in 1540.1 He held the office of a Lord Justice [Ireland].1
