Major Francis Bagenal Boyd was born on 18 October 1913.1 He was the son of John Bagenal Boyd and Dora Knox-Fletcher.2 He married Johanna Wilhelmina Geerlachdina Dykslag, daughter of Captain Frederik Dykslag, on 12 July 1948.1 He died on 5 March 2006 at age 92.3
He was educated at St. Columba's College, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.1 He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of officer in the service of the 2nd QO RW Kent Regiment.1 He was decorated with the award of the Military Cross (M.C.) on 26 June 1947.1,3 He retired from the military in 1948, with the rank of Major, late of the P.A.V.O.1 He lived at Hillburn House, Taghmon, County Wexford, Ireland.1
