Hon. Charlotte Susannah Gardner1

     Hon. Charlotte Susannah Gardner was the daughter of Admiral Alan Hyde Gardner, 2nd Baron Gardner and Hon. Charlotte Elizabeth Smith.1 She married Edward Vernon Harbord, 4th Baron Suffield, son of Edward Harbord, 3rd Baron Suffield and Hon. Georgiana Venables-Vernon, on 1 September 1835.2 She died on 15 August 1859, without issue.2
     After her marriage, Hon. Charlotte Susannah Gardner was styled as Baroness Suffield on 1 September 1835. From 1 September 1835, her married name became Harbord.

     Admiral Alan Hyde Gardner, 2nd Baron Gardner was born on 5 February 1770.1 He was the son of Admiral Alan Gardner, 1st Baron Gardner and Susannah Hyde Gale.3 He married, firstly, Maria Elizabeth Adderley, daughter of Thomas Adderley and Margaretta Bourke, on 9 March 1796.1 He and Maria Elizabeth Adderley were divorced in 1805.1 He married, secondly, Hon. Charlotte Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Robert Smith, 1st Baron Carrington of Upton and Anne Boldero-Barnard, on 10 April 1809.4 He died on 22 December 1815 at age 45.1
     He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Gardner, of Uttoxeter, co. Stafford [U.K., 1806] on 1 January 1809.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Gardner, of Uttoxeter, co. Stafford [I., 1800] on 1 January 1809.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Gardner, of the Navy [G.B., 1794] on 1 January 1809.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)1 On 30 September 1815 the London Gazette announced the intention to elevate him to a viscountcy, but he died before the patent passed.1

     Hon. Charlotte Elizabeth Smith was the daughter of Robert Smith, 1st Baron Carrington of Upton and Anne Boldero-Barnard.2 She married Admiral Alan Hyde Gardner, 2nd Baron Gardner, son of Admiral Alan Gardner, 1st Baron Gardner and Susannah Hyde Gale, on 10 April 1809.1 She died on 27 March 1811.1
     After her marriage, Hon. Charlotte Elizabeth Smith was styled as Baroness Gardner on 10 April 1809. From 10 April 1809, her married name became Gardner.

     Maria Elizabeth Adderley was the daughter of Thomas Adderley and Margaretta Bourke.1 She married Admiral Alan Hyde Gardner, 2nd Baron Gardner, son of Admiral Alan Gardner, 1st Baron Gardner and Susannah Hyde Gale, on 9 March 1796.1 She and Admiral Alan Hyde Gardner, 2nd Baron Gardner were divorced in 1805.1 She died on 4 December 1831.1
     Her married name became Gardner. After her marriage, Maria Elizabeth Adderley was styled as Baroness Gardner on 1 January 1809.

     Sir Edward Delaval Henry Astley, 22nd Lord Hastings was born on 14 April 1912.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Sir Albert Edward Delavel Astley, 21st Lord Hastings and Lady Marguerite Helen Nevill.1 He married Catherine Roseline Ratcliffe Hinton, daughter of Captain Harold Virgo Hinton, on 7 July 1954.1 He died on 25 April 2007 at age 95.2
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Coldstream Guards, Reserve of Officers.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He succeeded as the 12th Baronet Astley, of Hill Morton, co. Warwick [E., 1660] on 18 January 1956.1 He succeeded as the 22nd Lord Hastings [E., 1295] on 18 January 1956.1 He was Governor of the British Institute of Florence between 1959 and 1997.1 He held the office of Lord in Waiting between 1961 and 1962.1 He held the office of Joint Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Local Government between 1962 and 1964.1 He was awarded the Grand Officer, Italian Order of Merit in 1968.1 He was Governor of the Royal Ballet between 1971 and 1993.1 He lived in 2003 at Seaton Delavel Hall, Whitley Bay, Northumberland, EnglandG.1

     Sir Jacob Henry Astley, 5th Bt. was born on 12 September 1756.1 He was the son of Sir Edward Astley, 4th Bt. and Rhoda Delaval.1 He married Hester Browne, daughter of Samuel Browne and unknown daughter Case, on 14 January 1789 at St. Margaret's, Lynn, Norfolk, EnglandG.2 He died on 28 April 1817 at age 60.2 He was buried on 10 May 1817 at Melton Constable, Norfolk, EnglandG.2
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Norfolk between November 1797 and 1817.1 He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Astley [E., 1660] on 27 March 1802.1

     Hester Browne was born on 27 November 1767.1 She was the daughter of Samuel Browne and unknown daughter Case.1 She was baptised on 8 August 1768 at St. Margaret's, Lynn, Norfolk, EnglandG.1 She married Sir Jacob Henry Astley, 5th Bt., son of Sir Edward Astley, 4th Bt. and Rhoda Delaval, on 14 January 1789 at St. Margaret's, Lynn, Norfolk, EnglandG.1 She died on 13 January 1855 at age 87 at Burgh Hall, Norfolk, EnglandG.3 Her will was proven (by probate) in April 1855.3
     Her married name became Astley.
