Somerville Hay was born on 20 July 1817.1 He was the son of William Hay, 17th Earl of Erroll and Harriet Somerville.1 He married Lady Alicia Diana Erskine, daughter of Henry David Erskine, 12th Earl of Buchan and Elizabeth Cole Shipley, on 6 June 1843.1 He died on 25 September 1853 at age 36.1
