Sir Charles Granville Stuart-Menteth of Closeburn, 1st Bt. was born on 15 May 1769. He was the son of Reverend James Stuart-Menteth and Catherine Maria Wheler.2 He married Ludivina Loughnan, daughter of Thomas Loughnan and Philadelphia Fergusson, on 13 September 1791.3 He died on 3 December 1847 at age 78.
He gained the title of 1st Baronet Stuart-Menteth, of Closeburn.

Alice Mary Sinclair Hamilton was the daughter of John Hamilton.1 She married John Francis Erskine Goodeve-Erskine, 27th Earl of Mar, son of William James Goodeve and Lady Frances Jemima Erskine, on 12 September 1866.1 She died on 6 June 1924.1
As a result of her marriage, Alice Mary Sinclair Hamilton was styled as Countess of Mar on 12 September 1866. From 12 September 1866, her married name became Goodeve-Erskine.
