John Francis Erskine Goodeve-Erskine, 27th Earl of Mar1

     John Francis Erskine Goodeve-Erskine, 27th Earl of Mar was born on 29 March 1836.1 He was the son of William James Goodeve and Lady Frances Jemima Erskine.1 He married Alice Mary Sinclair Hamilton, daughter of John Hamilton, on 12 September 1866.1 He died on 17 June 1930 at age 94.1
     He was given the name of John Francis Erskine Goodeve at birth.1 He was educated at Bristol Grammar School, Bristol, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Queens' College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He succeeded as the 27th Earl of Mar [S., c. 1115] on 19 June 1866.1 On 19 June 1866 his name was legally changed to John Francis Erskine Goodeve-Erskine.1 He was the Curate at Tedstone Wafer, Herefordshire, EnglandG.1 In 1885 an Act of Parliament was passed to correct the English judges of the House of Lords Privileges Committee 1875 whose decision misinterpreted the Scots legal terminology of the 1565 charter; in toto it was found that the medieval Earldom destined to heirs general as established by the charter of 9 Dec 1404 and with that precedence had been restored together with a new creation of another earldom destined to heirs male (which had not existed before 1875 although allowed precedence of the charter of 1565.)1 He was appointed Representative Peer [Scotalnd] between 1886 and 1922.1

Lady Frances Jemima Goodeve1

     Lady Frances Jemima Goodeve was born in 1831.1 She was the daughter of William James Goodeve and Lady Frances Jemima Erskine.1 She married Lt.-Gen. James Nowell Young on 29 March 1854.1 She died on 11 August 1887.1
     Her married name became Young. On 15 October 1885 she was granted by Royal Warrant the rank of a daughter of a countess.1

     Lt.-Gen. James Nowell Young was born circa 1824. He married Lady Frances Jemima Goodeve, daughter of William James Goodeve and Lady Frances Jemima Erskine, on 29 March 1854.1 He died on 13 January 1917.1
     He was Judge-Advocate-General, Bengal.1

Major Charles Walter Young1

     Major Charles Walter Young was born on 25 November 1862.1 He was the son of Lt.-Gen. James Nowell Young and Lady Frances Jemima Goodeve.1 He married Constance Barnes Johnson, daughter of Reverend John Lovick Johnson, in 1885.1 He died in 1898.1
     He gained the rank of Major in the West India Regiment.1

Constance Barnes Johnson1

     Constance Barnes Johnson was the daughter of Reverend John Lovick Johnson.1 She married Major Charles Walter Young, son of Lt.-Gen. James Nowell Young and Lady Frances Jemima Goodeve, in 1885.1 She died on 28 June 1936.1
     Her married name became Young.

     Lionel Walter Young-Erskine, 29th Earl of Mar was born on 13 June 1891.1 He was the son of Major Charles Walter Young and Constance Barnes Johnson.1 He died on 27 November 1965 at age 74, unmarried.1
     He was given the name of Lionel Walter Young at birth.1 He was president of the Royal Martyr Church Union.1 In 1932 his name was legally changed to Lionel Walter Young-Erskine registered by the Court of Lord Lyon.1 He succeeded as the 29th Earl of Mar [S., c. 1115] on 29 September 1932.1

     Alice Young was born on 26 March 1858.1 She was the daughter of Lt.-Gen. James Nowell Young and Lady Frances Jemima Goodeve.1 She married James Horsburgh Lane, son of James Lane, on 2 March 1878.1 She died on 25 April 1951 at age 93.1
     From 2 March 1878, her married name became Lane.

Charles Macdonald Lane1

     Charles Macdonald Lane was born on 26 January 1882.1 He was the son of James Horsburgh Lane and Alice Young.1 He married Jessie Helen Grant, daughter of John Brown Grant, on 14 January 1914.1 He died on 30 April 1956 at age 74.1
     He was registered as a Indian Service of Engineers (I.S.E.)1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Star of India (C.S.I.) in 1935.1
