     James Vernon was born in 1646.2 He married, secondly, Arethusa Boyle, daughter of Charles Boyle, 2nd Baron Clifford of Lanesborough and Lady Arethusa Berkeley.1 He married, firstly, Mary Buck, daughter of Sir John Buck, 1st Bt. and Mary Ashton, on 6 April 1675.2 He died in 1727.2
     He held the office of Secretary of State, to King William III.2
