     Colonel James Doddington Carmichael was born on 14 August 1820.1 He was the son of David Scott Carmichael Smyth and Anne Sherwood.2 He married Barre Georgina Latter, daughter of Major unknown Latter, in 1859.1 He married Teresa Anne Morris, daughter of Thomas Morris, in 1869.1 He died on 13 May 1893 at age 72.1
     Colonel James Doddington Carmichael was baptised with the name of James Doddington Carmichael Smyth.1 He was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.1 His name was legally changed to James Doddington Carmichael by Royal Licence.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the 32nd Regiment.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.).1

     Lieutenant James Barre Hood Carmichael was born on 12 July 1860.1 He was the son of Colonel James Doddington Carmichael and Barre Georgina Latter.2 He died on 18 September 1880 at age 20, killed in a landslip, unmarried.1

     Claude Dundas James Carmichael was born on 21 October 1862.3 He was the son of Colonel James Doddington Carmichael and Barre Georgina Latter.2 He married Mary Glencairn Shaw, daughter of James Shaw, on 5 July 1888.3 He died on 8 September 1915 at age 52.3
     Claude Dundas James Carmichael gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry.3 He was an officer with the Madras Police Force.3 He unsuccessfully claimed the dormant titles of the Eral of Hyndford.3 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.).3 He held the position of 27th Chief of the Name and Arms of Carmichael on 31 May 1902.1

     Major Hon. John Taaffe was the son of Theobald Taaffe, 1st Earl of Carlingford and Mary White.1 He married Rose Lambart, daughter of Charles Lambart, 1st Earl of the County of Cavan.1 He died in April 1689, killed in action.1
