     Sir George Burns, 1st Bt. was born on 10 December 1795.1 He was the son of Reverend John Burns and Elizabeth Stevenson.1 He married Jane Cleland, daughter of James Cleland and Margaret Rodger, on 10 June 1822.1 He died on 2 June 1890 at age 94.1
     He was created 1st Baronet Burns, of Wemyss Bay, co. Renfrew [U.K.] on 24 June 1889.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.2

     George Arbuthnot Burns, 2nd Baron Inverclyde of Castle Wemyss was born on 17 September 1861.1 He was the son of John Burns, 1st Baron Inverclyde of Castle Wemyss and Emily Arbuthnot.2 He married Mary Fergusson, daughter of Hickson Fergusson, on 6 April 1886.1 He died on 8 October 1905 at age 44, without issue.1
     He was chairman of Cunard Steamship Company.1 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baron Inverclyde of Castle Wemyss, co. Renfrew [U.K., 1897] on 12 February 1901.1
