George Arbuthnot Burns, 2nd Baron Inverclyde of Castle Wemyss was born on 17 September 1861.1 He was the son of John Burns, 1st Baron Inverclyde of Castle Wemyss and Emily Arbuthnot.2 He married Mary Fergusson, daughter of Hickson Fergusson, on 6 April 1886.1 He died on 8 October 1905 at age 44, without issue.1
He was chairman of Cunard Steamship Company.1 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baron Inverclyde of Castle Wemyss, co. Renfrew [U.K., 1897] on 12 February 1901.1
