     Lady Gertrude Manners was the daughter of Thomas Manners, 1st Earl of Rutland and Eleanor Paston.2 She married George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury, son of Francis Talbot, 5th Earl of Shrewsbury and Mary Dacre, on 28 April 1539.1 She died circa 13 January 1566/67.1 She was buried on 16 January 1566/67.1
     From 28 April 1539, her married name became Talbot.1 After her marriage, Lady Gertrude Manners was styled as Countess of Shrewsbury on 25 September 1560.

     Thomas Manners, 1st Earl of Rutland was born before 1492.2 He was the son of George Manners, 11th Lord de Ros of Helmsley and Anne St. Leger.1,2 He married, secondly, Eleanor Paston, daughter of Sir William Paston and Bridget Heydon.3 A settlement for the marriage between him and Elizabeth Lovell was made on 21 February 1512/13.2 He died on 20 September 1543.2
     He succeeded as the 12th Lord de Ros of Helmsley [E., 1299] on 23 October 1513.1 He held the office of Keeper of Sherwood Forest in 1519.2 In 1521 he was one of the peers who tries the Duke of Buckingham on a bill of attainder.2 He was Cupholder to King Henry VIII in December 1521.2 He held the office of Steward of Pickering, Yorkshire in January 1522.2 He was Warden of the Eastern and Middle Marches between April 1522 and October 1522.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Essex between 1524 and 1526.2 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) in 1525.2 He was created 1st Earl of Rutland [England] on 18 June 1525.2 He was Keeper of Enfield Chase in 1526.2 In 1536 he was one of those presding at the trial of Queen Anne Boleyn.2 He was a commander of the King's forces in suppressing the Pilgrimmage of Grace in 1536.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1536.2 He held the office of Lord Chamberlain to Queen Anne of Cleves between 1539 and 1541.2 He was Warden and Chief Justice and Justice in Eyre of forests beyond Trent between 1540 and 1543.2 He was Lord Chamberlain to Queen Catherine Howard.2 He got possession at the Dissolution of the Monasteries of Charley, Croxton, Garradon and the Manor of Muston, all of Leicestershire, Beverley, Nunburnholme, Riveaulx and Warter all of Yorkshire.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Essex, Lincolnshire, Rutland, Surrey and West Riding, Yorkshire in 1542.2 He held the office of Constable of Nottingham Castle in 1542.2 He held the office of Lord Warden of the Scottish Marches between August 1542 and September 1542.2
