He was the son of Nikola I Petrovic-Njegoš, King of Montenegro and Milena Vukotic.2 He married Jutta Herzogin von Mecklenburg-Strelitz, daughter of Adolf Friedrich V Großherog von Mecklenburg-Strelitz and Elisabeth Marie Frederica Amelia Agnes Prinzessin von Anhalt-Dessau, on 15 July 1899 at Cetinje, Montenegro. He died on 24 September 1939 at age 68 at Vienna, Austria.
