Admiral John Elphinstone1

     Admiral John Elphinstone was born on 4 October 1722 at Lopness, Orkney Islands, Scotland.1,2 He was the son of John Elphinstone and Anne Williams.3 He married Amelia Warburton, daughter of John Warburton, on 23 October 1750 at Mercers Hall Chapel, Cheapside, London, England.1,2 He died on 28 February 1785 at age 62 at London, England.1,2
     He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Admiral in 1770 in the Russian service, commanding Catherine the Great's fleet at the Battle of Cheshme or Tchesme, when the Turkish fleet was destroyed.1 He had three other sons.1

     From 23 October 1750, her married name became Elphinstone.
