     Charles Barclay-Maitland, 12th Earl of Lauderdale was born on 29 September 1822.1 He was the son of Reverend Charles Barclay-Maitland and Anne Knott.1 He died on 13 August 1884 at age 61 at Braidshaw Rigg Moor, Lauder, Berwickshire, Scotland, after being struck by lightning, unmarried.1
     Charles Barclay-Maitland, 12th Earl of Lauderdale succeeded to the title of 12th Viscount of Lauderdale [S., 1616] on 1 September 1878.1 He succeeded to the title of 13th Lord Maitland of Thirlestane [S., 1590] on 1 September 1878.1 He succeeded to the title of 8th Baronet Maitland [N.S., 1680] on 1 September 1878.1 He succeeded to the title of 12th Earl of Lauderdale [S., 1624] on 1 September 1878.1 He succeeded to the title of 12th Viscount Maitland [S., 1624] on 1 September 1878.1 He succeeded to the title of 12th Lord Thirlestane and Boltoun [S., 1624] on 1 September 1878.1

     Maria Anne Barclay-Maitland was the daughter of Reverend Charles Barclay-Maitland and Anne Knott.1 She married Reverend James Hardwicke Dyer on 9 January 1840.1 She died on 22 June 1845.1
     From 9 January 1840, her married name became Dyer.1

     Janet Moncrieffe was born in 1715.1 She was the daughter of Sir Thomas Moncreiffe of that Ilk, 2nd Bt. and Margaret Smythe.1 She married Hon. Charles Barclay-Maitland of Tillicoultrie, son of Charles Maitland, 6th Earl of Lauderdale and Lady Elizabeth Ogilvy, on 11 February 1768.1 She died on 6 November 1799, without issue.1
     From 11 February 1768, her married name became Barclay-Maitland.1

     Lt.-Col. Frederick Henry Maitland, 13th Earl of Lauderdale was born on 16 December 1840.2 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. Frederick Colthurst Maitland and Ann Deering Williams.1 He married, firstly, Charlotte Sarah Sleigh, daughter of Lt.-Col. B. W. A. Sleigh, on 28 November 1864.2 He married, secondly, Ada Twyford Simpson, daughter of Reverend Henry Trail Simpson, in 1883.2 He died on 1 September 1924 at age 83.2
     Lt.-Col.
