     Bessie Carmen Cory was born in 1914.2 She was the daughter of Sir James Herbert Cory, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Cansh Walker.1 She married Harry Wilson McGowan, 2nd Baron McGowan, son of Harry Duncan McGowan, 1st Baron McGowan and Jean Boyle Young, on 22 April 1937.2 She died on 6 September 1996.3,4
     Bessie Carmen Cory usually went by her middle name of Carmen.5 Her married name became McGowan.

     Sir James Herbert Cory, 1st Bt. was born on 7 February 1857.1 He was the son of John Cory.1 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Hoskin Wills, daughter of George Hoskin Wills, in 1879.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Cansh Walker, daughter of Alexander Walker, in 1910.1 He died on 7 February 1933 at age 76.1
     Sir James Herbert Cory, 1st Bt. usually went by his middle name of Herbert.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Glamorgan.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Cardiff.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Glamorgan.1 He was director of John Cory and Sons Ltd, shipowners.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Glamorgan in 1913.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.)
