Commander Frederick Elton1

     Commander Frederick Elton was born on 3 May 1854.2 He was the son of Frederick Bayard Elton and Caroline Elizabeth d'Alberdyhill, Baroness d'Alberdyhill.2 He married Ernestine White, daughter of Ernest White, on 29 July 1893.2 He died on 2 November 1922 at age 68.2
     He fought in the South African War in 1879.1 He gained the rank of Commander in the service of the Royal Navy.2 He was decorated with the award of the Medal for saving life at sea.1 He lived at Whitestaunton Manor, Somerset, England.1

Major Bruce Middleton Hope Shand1

     Major Bruce Middleton Hope Shand was born on 22 January 1917.2 He was the son of Philip Morton Shand and Edith Marguerite Harrington.1,3 He married Hon. Rosalind Maud Cubitt, daughter of Roland Calvert Cubitt, 3rd Baron Ashcombe and Sonia Rosemary Keppel, on 2 January 1946.1 He died on 11 June 2006 at age 89.2
     He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England.2 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.2 He was commissioned in 1937 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, in the service of the 12th Royal Lancers.2 He fought in the Second World War, where h was wounded, and became a POW in 1942.2 He gained the rank of Major in 1942 in the service of the 12th Royal Lancers.1 He was decorated with the award of the Military Cross (M.C.) (and bar) in 1942.1 He retired from the military in 1947.2 He was Joint Master of the Foxhunds for Southdown between 1956 and 1975.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Sussex in 1962.2 He held the office of Vice-Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex between 1974 and 1992.1

     Hon. Rosalind Maud Cubitt was born on 11 August 1921.1 She was the daughter of Roland Calvert Cubitt, 3rd Baron Ashcombe and Sonia Rosemary Keppel.1 She married Major Bruce Middleton Hope Shand, son of Philip Morton Shand and Edith Marguerite Harrington, on 2 January 1946.1 She died on 14 July 1994 at age 72 at Sussex, England, from osteoporosis.1,3
      Her married name became Shand.

     Sonia Annabel Shand was born on 2 February 1949.1 She is the daughter of Major Bruce Middleton Hope Shand and Hon. Rosalind Maud Cubitt.1 She married Simon John Elliot, son of Air Chief Marshal Sir William Elliot and Rosemary Chancellor, on 27 April 1972.1
      Sonia Annabel Shand usually went by her middle name of Annabel.1 From 27 April 1972, her married name became Elliot.

     He was educated at Milton Abbey School, England.1 He wrote the book Travels on My Elephant, published 1991.1

     Philip Morton Shand was born on 21 January 1888 at Kensington, London, England.2 He was the son of Alexander Faulkner Shand and Augusta Mary Coates.2 He married, firstly, Edith Marguerite Harrington, daughter of George Woods Harrington and Alice Edith Stillman, on 22 April 1916 at St. Peter's Church, Hammersmith, London, England.2 He and Edith Marguerite Harrington were divorced in 1920.2 He married, secondly, Sybil Mary Sissons after 1920.3 He died on 30 April 1960 at age 72 at Lyon, France.2
     He was an author and architect.2 He lived at 9 Norland Square, London, England.1
