     He gained the rank of officer in the 45th Regiment.1 He fought in the Kaffir War.1 He fought in the Crimean War.1 He fought in the Indian Mutiny.1 He was Colonel of the 93rd Perthshire Light Infantry between 1872 and 1873.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the 90th Regiment of Foot.1
