Colonel Herbert Charles Thornton Littledale was born on 6 February 1856 at Gya, India.1 He was the son of Arthur Littledale and Emily Barnes.1 He married, firstly, Mary Primrose, daughter of General James Maurice Primrose and Elizabeth Beresford, in June 1885 at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.1 He married, secondly, Isabella Frances Bowle-Evans, daughter of John Bowle-Evans and Isabella Sofia Harford, in December 1891 at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.1 He died on 3 November 1925 at age 69 at Ravenhurst, Pittville, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.1
He was commissioned in 1874, in the service of the 65th Regiment.1 He fought in the Egypt Campaign in 1884.1 He fought in the Tirah Campaign between 1897 and 1898.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Scots Greys.1 He retired from the military in 1910, with the rank of Colonel, late of the Dragoon Guards.1
