     Douglas Vivian Murray was born on 2 December 1905.1 He is the son of Reverend Arthur Silver Murray and Rose Evelyn Woodhouse.1 He married, firstly, Isabel Mary Farquhar Fausset-Farquhar, daughter of Dr. Andrew Grierson Fausset-Farquhar, on 17 August 1932.1 He and Isabel Mary Farquhar Fausset-Farquhar were divorced in 1958.1 He married, secondly, Beryl Violet Wybergh, daughter of Lt.-Col. John Henry Wybergh, on 16 July 1958.1
     Douglas Vivian Murray was educated at Westminster School, Westminster, London, England.1 He was educated at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1 He graduated from Cambridge University with the degree of Master of Arts (M.A.).1
