     Sir Henry Strachey, 1st Bt. was born on 23 May 1736 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.1 He was the son of Henry Strachey and Helen Clerk.1 He was also reported to have been born on 23 May 1737.2 He married Jane Kelsall, daughter of John Kelsall, on 23 May 1770.1 He died on 1 January 1810 at age 73 at Hill Street, Berkeley Square, London, England.1
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Pontefract between 1768 and 1774.1 He was Secretary of the Commission for restoring peace in America in 1774.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bishop's Castle between 1774 and 1778.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Saltash between 1778 and 1780.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bishop's Castle between 1780 and 1802.1 He held the office of Under-Secretary of State, Home Department between 1782 and 1783.1 He held the office of Master of the King's Household in 1794.1 He was created 1st Baronet Strachey, of Sutton Court [U.K.] on 15 June 1801.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for East Grinstead between 1802 and 1807.1

     Henry Strachey was born on 22 February 1707.1,2 He was the son of John Strachey and Elizabeth Elletson.1,2 He married, secondly, Frances Quarme.2 He married, firstly, Helen Clerk, daughter of Robert Clerk, on 19 September 1727.1,2 He died on 23 May 1765 at age 58.1,2
     He lived at Sutton Court, Somerset, England.1

     John Strachey was born in 1671.1 He was the son of John Strachey and Jane Hodges.1,2 He married, secondly, Christiana Staveley, daughter of Richard Staveley.2 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Elletson, daughter of William Elletson, on 10 May 1692.2 He died on 11 June 1743.1
     He was a geologist.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) on 5 November 1719.1 He wrote the book Observations on the different Strata of Earths and Minerals, published 1727.1 He was an antiquary.2

     John Strachey was born in 1634.2 He was the son of William Strachey and Elizabeth Cross.2 He married Jane Hodges, daughter of George Hodges, in December 1662.2 He died on 4 February 1674.1
     He graduated from Lincoln College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1653 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He was admitted to Lincooln's Inn in 1660 entitled to practise as a barrister.2 He lived at Sutton Court, Somerset, England.2

     Helen Clerk was the daughter of Robert Clerk.1 She married Henry Strachey, son of John Strachey and Elizabeth Elletson, on 19 September 1727.1,2 She died on 8 February 1745.2
     From 19 September 1727, her married name became Strachey.1
