     Lt.-Col. Frederick Lewis Makgill Crichton Maitland was born on 7 March 1878.1 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. David Makgill Crichton Maitland and Lady Margaret Pleydell-Bouverie.1 He married Amy Anne Charlotte Duckett, daughter of Steuart James Charles Duckett and Catherine Seton Dick-Lauder, on 21 February 1921.1 He died on 12 November 1949 at age 71, without issue.1
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Boer War, Where he was severely wounded.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1918.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Gordon Highlanders.1
