     He was given the name of Thomas Gordon Torry at birth.1 He was educated at Marischal College, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1 He graduated from University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 In 1828 his name was legally changed to Thomas Gordon Torry Anderson.1
