     William Gandy Bateson was born on 22 January 1817.1 He was the son of James Bateson and Ann (?).1 He was baptised on 18 February 1817 at Liverpool, Lancashire, England.1 He married Alice Dingwall Blaikie, daughter of Sir Thomas Blaikie and Agnes Dingwall, on 30 August 1833 at Old Machar, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1 He died on 13 March 1881 at age 64.1
     He was a practising attorney.1

     He was Gf. i. Hennegau.3 He was Lay Abbot of the Abbeys of St. Servais de Maestricht, St. Maximin, Chevremont, Echternach and Stavelot.1
