     Sir Thomas Kirkpatrick of Closeburn, 1st Bt. is the son of Robert Kirkpatrick and Grizel Baillie.2 He married Isabel Torphichena, daughter of 4th Lord (?) Torphichena, on 25 April 1666.1
      On 7 December 1672 married 2nd (contract ) Sarah, daughter of Robert Ferguss of Craigdarroch, by whom he had another s (Roger, d unm).1 He was created 1st Baronet Kirkpatrick [Nova Scotia] on 26 March 1685.1 In 1686 married 3rd Grisel, daughter of Gavin Hamilton of Raploch and widow of – Inglis, but by her had no issue.1 He was Member of Parliament (M.P.) Dumfries in 1690.1
