     Major James Henry L'Estrange Johnstone of Hangingshaw was born on 8 August 1865.1 He was the son of James Johnstone of Alva and Sarah Mary L'Estrange.2 He married Amy Octavia Wauchope, daughter of Andrew Wauchope, on 29 October 1891.1 He died on 24 September 1906 at age 41.1
     He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Engineers.1 He was President of the Railway and Telegraph Administration at Cairo, Egypt.1 He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.)1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Selkirk and Clackmannan.1 He lived at Hangingshaw, Selkirkshire, Scotland.1

     Amy Octavia Wauchope was the daughter of Andrew Wauchope.1 She married, firstly, Major James Henry L'Estrange Johnstone of Hangingshaw, son of James Johnstone of Alva and Sarah Mary L'Estrange, on 29 October 1891.1 She married, secondly, Alfred Charles Seton-Christopher on 1 June 1927.1 She died on 21 May 1949.1
     From 29 October 1891, her married name became Johnstone. She was appointed Officer, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (O.St.J.)1 From 1 June 1927, her married name became Seton-Christopher.1

     He fought in the First World War.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery.1 He lived at Hangingshaw, Selkirkshire, Scotland.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Royal Flying Corps.1
