     Colonel Ernest Astley Edmund Lethbridge was born on 26 December 1864.2 He was the son of Sir Wroth Acland Lethbridge, 4th Bt. and Ann Williams Benyon.1 He married Ruth Mary Holmes à Court, daughter of Edward Alexander Holmes à Court and Adelaide Sophie Hamersley, on 9 July 1919.1 He died on 29 April 1943 at age 78.2
     He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902, he was mentioned in despatches twice.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1 He fought in the First World War, in Mesopotamia, and where he was mentioned in despatches twice and became a POW.2 He was commander of the 1st Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry.2 He gained the rank of Brevet -Colonel.2 He was awarded the Croix de Guerre.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.)1
