     Lt.-Col. Orlando George Gunning was born on 31 July 1867.1 He was the son of Colonel John Campbell Gunning and Mary Anne Boyson.2 He married Margaret Cecilia Dawkins, daughter of Clinton George Dawkins, on 1 November 1902.1 He died on 14 November 1917 at age 50.1
     He fought in the Miranzai Expedition in 1891.1 He fought in the Dongola Expedition.1 He fought in the Malakand Expedition between 1897 and 1898, where he was mentioned in despatches twice and was severely wounded.1 He was decorated with the award of the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.).1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and Brevet Colonel in the service of the 35th Sikhs, Indian Army.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.).1

     Sir Orlando Peter Gunning was born on 1 October 1908.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Orlando George Gunning and Margaret Cecilia Dawkins.2 He married Patricia Mary O'Connor, daughter of Captain Dermot Patrick O'Connor, on 19 October 1940.1 He died on 4 November 1964 at age 56.1
      Sir Orlando Peter Gunning usually went by his middle name of Peter. He was educated at Haileybury College, Haileybury, Hertfordshire, England.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1930 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He gained the rank of Flight Lieutenant in the service of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1956.1 He held the office of Deputy Governor of East Nigeria between 1956 and 1958.1 He was invested as a Knight Bachelor in 1959.1 He was chairman of the Uganda Public and Police Service Commisioners between 1959 and 1962.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1960 with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1
